Letters to the Editor

Bonnie Rapp,

The Roundup’s recent article, entitled “Food services: not fit,” makes evident a dichotomy on this campus between those who like the new Freudian Sip’s coffee and packaged take-along bites and those who prefer the cafeteria’s freshly served stay-awhile delights. There should be room for both preferences here.

Personally, I hate the idea of fast-food and avoid prepackaged salads that usually offer little flavor or variety.

Instead, I enjoy the cafeteria’s salad bar with its multitude of choices, which include fresh greens, a host of other vegetables and fruits, along with hot offerings such as Spanish rice or beans or sauteed chicken in delectable sauces.

And the prices are better than fair.

Still, I understand those who don’t have time to serve themselves beyond the quick fix that prepackaged doses of sugary treats and coffee can provide.

The only thing I ask is that we don’t forget one choice for the other.

Two places are better than one, especially when real weather arrives.

At least, the cafeteria offers shelter from the storm.

Did you ever try juggling coffee and a sweet roll on the middle of the Santa Anna winds?

Trust me, we need the cafeteria too.
