Softball: Injuries, replacements stall season

The softball team may not have done as well as they did in the two seasons preceding them with only five wins and 35 losses this season.

“Our strength was the team knew that we didn’t have a strong pitcher,” said Head Coach Pat Grennan.

Freshman pitcher Amanda Mayora joined the team late in the season and then had to leave due to injuries.

Later, the team rallied together to help Carmen Navaro, who had little experience as a pitcher, to take Mayora’s place.

“I was really pleased,” said Grennan, referring to Navaro’s performance.

Grennan said that Mayora’s health is a major focus for the team and is the key to being a stronger.

Grennan will be recruiting girls from local high schools like Taft and Birmingham high schools. He also expects most of the 13 freshmen to return as sophomores next season.
