Tennis: Dismal season, hopes for the next

Pierce tennis ended in a disappointing fashion with a 2-8 win-loss record in the league as they struggled to compete for honors.

“The season was a disaster,” said Allen Dunn, assistant tennis coach.

“We didn’t have much to work with,” he said.

Pierce however did fare slightly better in the postseason tournaments. Mark Lewin going as far as the third round in the individual tournament at Ojai and their No. 1 doubles team performing well in conference.

The late Paul Xanthos influence on the team was clearly missed over the course of the season.

“Of course he’s missed. He had great influence on Pierce,” said Dunn.

With the season now over, Pierce will be looking for improvement for the next season, recruiting players and working harder during the off season. “If we could recruit a little better, work a little harder in practice, it’s going to pay dividends,” said Dunn.
