In contrast to the past week, the sun was shining and the Pierce College softball team defeated Glendale College, 5-4, with apparent team unity which resonated throughout the tight game.

Starting pitcher Alyse Scarmozzino pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs.

“I’m just really happy we won. It was a team effort and I’m really glad we pulled together and in the end got the win,” Scarmozzino said.

During the first inning, a controversial call was made, leading to a scored run for the Brahmas.Umpires James Walker and King Lee did not comment.

Jackie Domine went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.

“Our hitting was awesome…I felt faster than usual,” she said.

Lauren Davis, who finished the game, pitched 2 2/3, giving up one hit and one unearned run.

“We stepped it up when we needed to even though they got some runs,” Davis said. “I think we did really well at coming back and getting hits.

“We’ve bonded more and we’ve come together and it shows a lot on the field…If we keep playing like this, we’ll win a lot more,” she said.

Putting things into retrospect, assistant coach Greg Wertz proudly mentioned, “It was a great game, it was a lot of fun. It was exciting.

“The lead was gotten and lost several times. It wasn’t like one team completely blasted the other team. The girls had to continuously make efforts,” he said.

The next game was originally scheduled for Monday against College of the Canyons, but it was rescheduled instead for Tuesday at Citrus College at 2:30 p.m.
