The Pierce College men’s volleyball team pulled off their sixth straight win yesterday defeating Palomar College 3-0 despite behind-the-scenes tension within the team.

Amidst rumors that there has been a clashing of egos between players, Pierce managed to put aside their differences and pull together for the win.

“We’re getting better. We do have a lot of good guys on this team and some of the guys are used to being the stars on the team. We are trying to come together and bring all the talent together and play as a team,” said freshman Mike Sofley.

This was Sofley’s first start of the season and he came out with his game face on delivering eight kills and four blocks. Head coach Eddie Stanislawski was especially impressed with Sofley’s game.

“This was his first start of the season, and he came out and did a lot of great stuff and he played really well,” said Stanislawski.

Freshman Jake Dietrich also had an impressive game leading the team in digs with four.

“It feels good. We’re doing pretty good so why change what’s working? But there is always something to improve on and hopefully we can stop the plateau and keep building,” said Dietrich.

Jon Gurr, a full time sophomore, led the Brahmas with two aces, twelve kills and four blocks.

Pierce beat Palomar in three sets with a score of 30-21 in the first, 30-20 in the second and 30-23 in the third. They hope to extend their winning streak Wednesday when they play Golden West College at home.
