Voter registration deadline tomorrow

Tomorrow, May 4, is the deadline for registering in the California May 19 special elections.

Closer to home, this election will include the run-off of two Los Angeles Community College seats, currently belonging to Nancy Pearlman and Angela Reddock.

Reddock will face off against Tina Park for Seat 2 and Pearlman will battle Robert Nakahiro for Seat 6 of the board of trustees.

The election will also cover statewide topics:

Proposition 1A: Would change the budget process, possibly limiting the deficit and spending by increasing the state’s “rainy day” fund.

Proposition 1B: Would require supplemental payments to local school districts and community colleges.

Proposition 1C: Would allow the state lottery to be modernized to improve performance with increased payouts, improved marketing, and effective management.

Proposition 1D: Would provide more flexible funding to the health and human services of children, with a modified layout to balance the budget.

Proposition 1E: Would balance state budget by amending the Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63 of 2004) saving State General Fund about $230 million annually for two years (2009-10 and 2010-11).

Proposition 1F: Would encourage a balanced state budget by preventing elected Members of the Legislature and statewide government officials, including the Governor, from receiving pay raises in years when the state is running a deficit.
