Weekly concerts funded by the Associated Students Organization are taking place in the Performing Arts Mainstage at 12:45 p.m. every Thursday, with acts ranging from solo guitar and piano acts to big band style music.
A wide variety of music genres can be exhibited in these concerts including jazz, classical, New Age, pop, world music and many other unique styles.
Dr. Wayne Perkins, director of the Pierce College music department, personally selects the performers who will play in the concert.
The music department has been hosting these concerts for more than 30 years.
The performers aren’t limited to Pierce students.
“We also host performers from different colleges,” Perkins said. “Last semester we had a group from UCLA.”
Some of the music teachers on campus are requiring their students attend these weekly concerts in order to pass the class.
When asked what his reason for attending the concert was, Pierce student Rich Rosales said, “My music class. We have to have two on campus concerts and one off-campus concert.”
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Early attendance is suggested, as doors close at 1 p.m.
The concerts are quite popular among Pierce students and non-Pierce students alike.
These weekly concerts will take place up until Dec. 10 and take place on the Performing Arts Building Mainstage.
