The San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Pierce College in the Performing Arts Building on Feb 27 at 8:00 p.m.
The orchestra is made up of students from Pierce’s 721 Music class, along with musicians from the surrounding community and other professionals.
James Domine, who has been writing and performing music since the late 1970s, will be conducting the upcoming shows at Pierce and considers classical musical one of his favorites to conduct.
“Being able to provide music to the community – so that they don’t need to travel all the way into the city to enjoy themselves,” Domine says, ” is a great aspect of our performance.”
The program includes Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in D Major, and selections from Handle’s Water Music.
Mozart’s piece means a lot to Ruth Bruegger, UCLA graduate and violinist.
“It reminds me of my dad who passed a way two months ago. He raised me on the classics. I’ll try not to cry when I play,” Bruegger said.
Nancy Roth, a Julliard graduate and violist, enjoys the music that will be played.
“These pieces are very up lifting tunes,” said Roth, “[They give] a good feeling of togetherness which is really nice to have.”
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for students and seniors, and $15 for children under 12. Season tickets are available.
