The construction at Pierce College continues by means of establishing on to the new and improved plan of constructing a cafeteria and library beginning this October 2010.
The plan indicates that the structure will be a two-story building where the cafeteria will be kept on its current location and the library will be incorporated to the second floor.
The process will take around six to nine months to tear down and this is because “there may be environmental hazardous material in the building”, said Brian Silk the Analyst of the College Development in Enterprise Office. But the actual building will take around three years to complete.
At this time no one is sure what kind of food court will be inside the new cafeteria, but all will be decided once the College gets a hold of the contracts along with decisions made by Swinerton who have a part section to do with this and is the company in charge of construction at Pierce College.
As of now the cafeteria is run by Linda Brown Daniels and has been for the last six years. “Right now it’s kind of hard to get student’s to get in, since they have the path ways blocked”, said Daniels in regards to current construction being done on the mall. “But just come and eat” added Daniels. According to Daniels, they may be having lunch trucks coming in while construction is in progress.
“I only buy the veggie sandwich there nothing else”. Said Angie Moore the sheriff’s secretary. Who believes the food is a bit pricey since the majority is sold by weight. At this time the future food prices for the new cafeteria are unknown. The expectations for the new project in combining the cafeteria and library are a means of civilizing and a new look for the college and for individuals to enjoy even if it means at the same time.
Considering the employees who are currently working in the cafeteria and library they won’t be left without a job. “People from the library will continue to work in the new Library”, added Silk. “The ones working in the cafeteria will be assigned to jobs elsewhere in the college”.
