Bill de Rubertis named Professor of the Year

The nominees hearts raced as Bill de Rubertis, political science professor, was announced Pierce College’s Professor of the Year Tuesday afternoon.

“I think it is great that [professor] de Rubertis was selected.  He has contributed so much to Pierce and his efforts will never be forgotten”, said Kathy Oborn, political science/econnomics/criminal justice department chair and past winner.

De Rubertis was elected by the Professional Development Committee, as a result of the outstanding portfolio submitted which was a requirement for each of the 16 nominees.

The criterion are for each portfolio included virtuosity, and ingenuity in teaching skills and devotion to students and to Pierce.

The award was provided by Pierce Emeriti Professors group (PEP), a group of retired professors who donate money to the school for present and future professor recognition.

As Professor of the Year, de Rubertis will be responsible for; student involvement to be more approachable at school; additional guiding principles for student success, for example , student retention rates, and modernization and creativity to programs the school offers, as well as many other tasks.

As a gift of gratitude de Rupertis will be one of the faculty marshals at commencement, along with acquiring a pecuniary award and a certificate of recognition on Opening Day in August 2010.
