Various dance styles ranging from ballet to hip-hop, will be showcased at the annual Spring Dance Concert, in the Performing Arts Building’s Main Stage on the Art Hill from May 14 to May 16.

In addition to ballet and hip-hop, the concert will also feature ensembles of tap dancing, jazz, dance improvisation, modern dance, dance drama, musical theater, swing and salsa.

A total of 100 actors auditioned for the concert in March, but only 88 made the cut according to Marian Weiser, instructor of Theater and Dance.

The Theater and Dance Department have collaborated to bring the concert to life.

Theater Instructor, Michael Gend will be the lighting engineer.

Weiser is confident that the audience is guaranteed to love the show and “leave the theater in exhilaration.”

Zemetka Taylor, first year president of the dance club, will bring talent and experience to the concert as she has danced since the tender age of three.

Performer, Jeorge Arroyo, who has never been in a show at Pierce will be making his dancing comeback, after missing a year due to a broken ankle he suffered in an off campus rehearsal.

Arroyo hopes to get his groove back as he plans on auditioning for American Idol in June.

“They (dancers and audience) can look forward to excitement, challenge, entertainment and education,” said Weiser as she danced to the rhythm of Lou Rawls.

The concert on Friday and Saturday will be at 8 p.m. while Sunday’s will be at 2 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now.

General admission tickets are $10 for center sections and $8 for side sections. For students and seniors, center sections are $8 and side sections $6.

Bargain prices are also available for groups. Groups of 15 or more pay only $5 per ticket. For more ticket information contact the Dance Office at (818) 710-4355.

The Children’s Spring Dance Concert has been cancelled, but auditions for children (age 14 and below) interested in the Fall Dance Concert will begin September 19 and according to Weiser “every child who auditions makes the show.”
