Tuesdays With Dan – The one about sports

Dan Cromar / Roundup

I’m what you’d call a “sports guy.”

Real news? No, thanks. I’ll stick to ESPN.

When I started this column, I swore to myself that for the first time, I would leave sports completely out of it.

To hell with that.

I’ll just have to get all of it out of my system at once, so let’s dive right in.

So the Miami Heat suffered their fourth loss in a row on Sunday.

That’s not your average four-game losing streak, though. It’s been what I like to call a “soul crushing four-game losing streak.”

During that time, they’ve lost to the Knicks, blown a 24-point lead against the Magic, gotten blown out by the Spurs and, most recently, missed two game winning shots in about five seconds against the Bulls.

But that’s not the best part.

No, the best part was when head coach Erik Spoelstra let it slip that some of his players were crying in the locker room after the loss to the Bulls.

Now, no one really knows exactly who was crying, but come on, we all hope is was LeBron.

Here’s your next “Decision.”  Kleenex or Puffs?

In other news, the NFL and the NFL Players Association still haven’t agreed on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

They recently extended the old CBA until Friday, giving them more time to reach an agreement before a lockout happens.

Here’s what I’ve been thinking: The worst possible scenario here is a prolonged work stoppage in the NFL.

What exactly would the players’ plans be in that situation? Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure that a good percentage of NFL players don’t have any marketable skills besides football.

Sure, some of them can get by on their endorsements or whore themselves out on reality TV. Hell, a good number could probably find legitimate work somewhere.

But what about the ones who’ve suffered brain damage or went to USC? What hope do they have?

And finally, spring training is in full swing, meaning baseball is just around the corner.

Like all teams, the Dodgers, aka the greatest team ever, have a few question marks coming in to the 2011 season.

Perhaps what will most significantly impact their success is what kind of season centerfielder Matt Kemp has.

Last year, Kemp suffered from a couple off-field distractions, most prominent of which was his highly publicized relationship with known “crazy bitch” Rihanna.

And that’s not just my speculation. It’s been said by highly reputable sources.

By that, I mean I read it in a magazine somewhere.

Fortunately for Dodger fans, that relationship has ended.

And apparently, judging by Rihanna’s new song “S&M,” that’s also fortunate for Matt Kemp.

Now the team can stop wondering where all those strange bruises came from.
