Pierce students use fashion to fight for cause

Pierce students Batel Cohen and Shanni Tal are preparing to witness all of their hard work come together in a fashion show they organized to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Batel Cohen needs to raise $2,000 to participate in a marathon for leukemia, which is why she came up with the idea for Fashion for Cure.  When Shanni Tal discovered what Batel was up to the duo decided to partner up.

The girls have been planning this event for over three weeks, all while balancing school and work.

According to Shanni they’ve received many donations, sponsors, and volunteers for the event; which helped keep their heads up.

“Every time we face our fears we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing,” she said.

There are around 14 models; some are professionals and some are friends, though all are volunteers.  Three designers will be participating in the show: Bliss LA, Sogno, and Crack Gallery.

All proceeds go to LLS.

Tickets will be $15 for students, $20 for regular admission, and $40 for V.I.P. (of which only 20 seats are available).  For tickets call Shanni at (818) 264-5208.

Fashion for Cure is happening on Oct. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.  The show will be taking place at the Elegant Banquet in Tarzana.
