Students are getting more involved with clubs
The Associated Student Organization (ASO) vice president spoke to the Academic Senate Monday regarding the success of clubs on campus this semester.
Febe Ruiz, the ASO vice president, informed the Senate of the many new and diverse clubs that were popping up around campus this semester.
“There has been an increase in student involvement this semester, and it makes our upcoming events that much more exciting,” said Ruiz.
Pierce College has over 40 different clubs, doubling in size from past semesters. With the Oct. 10 deadline to submit club applications, it’s likely that number will increase.
Club Rush will kick off tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Great Hall, and continue again the same time Wednesday with hopes of recruiting new members.
One issue that arose during the Academic Senate meeting in regards to the event was a previous issue with the electrical outlets that Kathy Oborn, professional/staff development coordinator, says “still don’t work.”
However, Tom Rosdahl, Academic Senate president, assures that it should be OK.
ASO has many exciting events in the next couple of months, such as the carnival coming to the campus on Oct. 13, and they’re more excited than ever now that students are actively a part of these events.
“It’s great,” said Ruiz. “Students actually want to participate on campus.”
