Veterinarian Technician Assistant Club

The Veterinarian Technician Assistant Club is designed to help students endeavor in future veterinarian careers.

Founded by Dr. Leland Shapiro, department chair of Agriculture & Natural Resource, the program is designed to make students more competitive in the field of helping animals.

With 53 members, the Veterinarian Technician Assistant Club is the biggest club on campus. There are also over 200 alumni either in veterinarian school or practicing veterinarians involved with the club.

“We share information, resources and stories,” said Club President Kris Galang. “This is where I belong.”

Galang talked about some of his experiences in the club dealing with animals from sheep, goats and cattle to snakes, ferrets and rats. He has also given birth to goat triplets.

The club itself is very helpful to students who want to become veterinarians.

“It looks very good on your resume, especially since becoming a vet is very competitive,” said Galang.

There are very few universities in which one could get a degree to become a veterinarian. Only four of those schools are located along the Pacific Coast: Western University of Pomona, UC Davis, Oregon State University and Washington State University.
