Spring 2013 classes dependent on Brown’s tax initiative

The amount of classes available for students at Pierce College in Spring 2013 is directly affected by the outcome of Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax initiative in November of this year, according to Academic Senate President Tom Rosdahl.

“Availability of classes depends on how much money [Pierce College] gets and that can change after November,” Rosdahl said.

The Los Angeles Community College District’s budget will be larger if Brown’s tax initiative passes, than it would be if it fails, according to the Governor’s State Budget Proposal.

Pierce College’s budget will be less in the 2012-2013 school year than it was in the 2011-2012 regardless of the outcome of the tax initiative. But the cuts will only be determined after the vote, according to Rosdahl.

The schedule for Fall 2012 is already planned.

The Los Angeles Community College District budget committee has made budget forecast scenarios, but won’t be certain until the voters decide wether to raise taxes in November, according to the Governor’s State Budget Proposal.
