Baseball team gets first win of the season

After losing the first four games of the season, the Pierce College baseball team earned a victory against Santa Barbara College on Tuesday.
The Brahmas stood ahead of the game for all nine innings ending with a 12-8 final score.
Pierce maintained the bases loaded on the bottom of the third inning where outfielder Cody deSpain hit a three RBI double.
“I was just trying to get the job done, hoping to score at least one run and luckily I got three,” he said.
Starting pitcher for the Brahmas, Nick Murphy, was taken out of the game on the top of the sixth inning for the bullpen to take over.
“I think my mechanics were a little off but I got out of it,” he said.
Four other pitchers Juevenal Terrazas, Max Mackey, Zack Friedman, and Tyler Peddicord continued to the lead the team.
Santa Barbara came out strong at the end of the sixth inning scoring six runs, three of them caused by a hit down the first base line, what seemed to be a foul ball but was called fair.
According to Pierce College head coach John Bushart the play was a tough call  but he felt it might have been foul.
Although this did not affect the team, deSpain said it was a little deflating because it should have been a foul ball.
As the team continues their season with a record of 1-4, they will prepare for the upcoming Rio Honda Tournament starting Feb. 16-18.
