Club to host children’s fashion show
The Child Development Club (CDC) will be hosting a children’s fashion show fundraiser to raise donations for Haven Hills Women and Children Shelter Friday Feb. 24 in the Great Hall.
The club has been collecting donated clothes for the event. In addition, any extra clothes from the event will also be donated to the shelter.
“Our goal is to collect clothes and give donations to Haven Hills Women and Children Shelter,” said Marcella Barreiro.
In order to gain donations, there will be a boutique with clothes for sale, a bake sale, and donation boxes in the Great Hall.
The idea for a fashion show began last fall.
“We had time to plan through the break. It was too much to do with the holidays,” said CDC Advisor Michelle Ventimiglia.
There will be around 30 children ranging from young babies to 12-year-old boys and girls participating in the fashion show.
“Most [children] are students’ children, or friends’ children, or students’ friends’ children,” said Ventimiglia.
This is the second time this event will be done, the first one transpiring two years ago.
Word of the fashion show is being spread in various ways.
“We [are using] fliers we are giving out in classes… the marquee, [and] word-of-mouth,” said Ventimiglia.
Admission to the fashion show is free.
“We were thinking of charging for admission, but we decided to let whoever wants to come to come, and hopefully they will make lots of donations,” said Ventimiglia.
It has cost the CDC no money at all to work on the fashion show.
“We try to have everything donated,” said Ventimiglia.
The members participating in the club event have been a part of the club for either many years or have joined recently.
“I heard in class that there was going to be a Child Development Club meeting last fall,” said CDC member Monica Corpus.
