Brahmas lose in blow out against Santa Ana College

With an effort to start the season on a good note, the Pierce College baseball team went head-to-head Feb. 7 with Santa Ana College at Don Sneddon Field.

Looking to grab their second win of the season after splitting a doubleheader, the Brahmas’ hope was shattered with a 14-4 loss.

The Dons put Pierce in an early deficit, scoring two runs in the first inning on sophomore pitcher Maxx Feldman.

Outfielder Nick Murphy sparked the offense at the top of the third with a base hit to score for the Brahmas. Freshman Alex Sawleson soon took the lead for Pierce, doubling to right-center knocking in two more runs.

Despite taking the lead, Santa Ana responded and scored a run at the bottom of the third to equalize the score.

With the game all tied up at 3-3, it was the Dons who broke the game open in the fourth inning, rallying to score five runs and taking a convincing lead.

First baseman Tyler Madrid had a solo homerun for the Dons in the sixth, and in the seventh Santa Ana was able to score 5 more runs making the score 14-3.

With a last chance effort for a miracle comeback Pierce took advantage in the ninth inning scoring a run for a potential rally.

However, a pitching change by Santa quickly shut down that glimpse of hope when JB Bryant struck out the last two outs to close the game for the Dons with a final score of 14-4.
