Broken waterline floods The Mall

A broken waterline caused a portion of the campus mall across from the Business Education Building to flood around 11 this morning.

Water started erupting out of a main domestic waterline and took campus facilities about two hours to successfully shut down the water down, according to an email sent by Director of Facilities Paul Nieman and Roundup reporters on scene.

The Roundup sent its first tweet at ll:05 a.m. shortly after the flooding began and their last tweet was at 12:48 p.m. just as the flooding stopped.

The flood created a stream of water flowing through a construction site across the mall and stretched to the other side into the service road in front of the N. Gym.

“It’s just wasting a lot of water here.” said David Flores, a 20-year-old biomedical engineer.

The water forced students and faculty to find alternative routes to get around campus or to walk through the water, soaking their shoes.

“I’m wondering why and how it started,” said Audrey Allahverdian, a 19-year-old ASL student. “I didn’t want to get my pants wet.”

While facilities  is working on finding the cause of the flood and repairing the necessary pipes, certain buildings will be without water.  The Business Education Building’s closest functioning bathroom is in the Center for Sciences or the new Library Learning Resource building. The old library’s closest facilities are in the Great Hall and the Faculty Office Building’s are located in the College Services Building or the Great Hall.
