Women’s water polo continue to struggle

The Pierce College women’s polo team were defeated by Cuesta on Wednesday Sept. 16. Cuesta finished the game with a final score of 9-23.

Before the game head coach Mariah Van Norman said, “Were really excited for season, and our biggest goal is looking to improve.”

With a double header, and the first game against Ventura. Assistant water polo coach Judi Terhar said, “This is our 4th game in 5 days.” “We just had a game against Ventura, we didn’t do so good the score was 19-3”.

While the team was waiting for Cuesta who was 20 minutes late they were warming up and Sofia Gogoasa, Pierce All-Around said, “I think our defense today is really gunna show what they’re made of, were strong, were here to win.” Emily Gilbert, Pierce defender said, “Were getting better at every game.”

“Our teams improving, thats the biggest thing we scored 9 goals against a great team and I’m happy, our girls improved a lot from the first game, certainly from this past weekend, I’m happy, coaches are happy.” said coach Van Norman.

“A strong defense and communication is the key to winning a game.” Mary Widhajanto Pierce goalie said.

Cuesta players said, “It was a good game, we came a long way down here, it was a rush but it was a good game.”

Defeated by Cuesta, Pierce water polo were still in great spirit with another game to come next week. The players are coaches ended strong

The next game will be at Pierce College on Wednesday Sept 23, against Citrus at 3:30.
