I am a student at Pierce College and I also work in the Office of Academic Affairs.
I picked up the recent copy of The Roundup and was shocked to see the description used by your writers in a description of Republican Peter Hankwitz.
Your decision to label him a “gay republican” lacks class and any kind of decency.
Can I ask you why it is important when describing a political candidate to label him as the “gay Republican?”
Is being gay his most important or pressing quality?
I don’t care if he is openly gay and wants everyone to know. That is neither here nor there.
Your headline is very insensitive and lacks any kind of class.
In closing, I would like to let you know that my thoughts are echoed by everyone who works in my office, some of who have been at Pierce for 30 years.
Respectfully,Richard Sugiyama
