Pierce College defeated Santa Monica College to win the Western State Conference Women’s Soccer championship.
The Brahmas have won four of the last five conference championships, losing only in 2004.
“This is the most satisfying and difficult,” said Head Coach Adolfo Perez.
The team started the season 0-2-1, the worst in the team’s five-year history.
“When you are 0-2-1 you think about winning a game,” said Perez.
“This has been an up and down season, what a great turnaround.”
The Brahmas had only three returning starters coming into the season.
Pierce has a record of 15-4-3 to end the regular season and they are 107-16-15 in the last six years.
The Brahmas are ranked fourth in the state.
“It feels good to win two years in a row,” said team captain Elia Petrosian.
The team has momentum going into the playoffs, after winning five of their last seven games.
“We worked hard over the summer to win the conference,” said midfielder Joanna “JoJo” Guatemala.
“It was an important game and losing was not an option,” said defender Marisela Escobar.
Pierce will host a first-round playoff game Saturday 2 p.m. at home against Santa Monica College.
