The Pierce men’s volleyball team hosted a non-conference match Wednesday where they shut out Grossmont College 3-0.

Striving to meet head coach Adam Black’s expectations, coming close enough still brought the team a win.

Leading the team with 36 assists, freshman Kyle Luongo helped bring the first win 25-20 with a dramatic save off his foot.

In the second game the tream knew they had to put on the pressure winning the game, 25-23.

Coming out strong for the third game, the team swept the court 25-15 and walked off the court with a victory.

Freshman Joe Papadapolous had seven blocks and Kris Marlitz led the team with 12 kills.

“The guys played very well,” said Black. “The training is finally coming through.”

Black was satisfied with the team’s overall performance but still had hopeful changes for the oncoming season.

Pointing out one of the team’s few weaknesses, Black said, “The technical game could be more consistent.”

“People try to step up and try to play too much, that’s when we mess up,” said sophomore David Hunt who had three aces in the first game.

This week the Brahma’s are on a three game road trip versus Moorpark College on Tuesday, Long Beach City College on Friday and versus Santa Barbra College on March 24.

Next home game is Wednesday March 29 versus Santa Monica College at 7 p.m.
