The Pierce College baseball team soundly defeated Mission College 18-8 on a sunny afternoon home game on March 2, boasting three homeruns in an impressive day at bat.
The first inning of play set the tone for the entire game.
Mission allowed five errors, more than one of which were wild pitches, leading to men on third base stealing home (twice).
The first homerun was hit in the first inning by Jordan Ott who capped off a promising start.
Mission was actually held scoreless until the eighth inning thanks to a strong Pierce defense led by an impressive pitching performance from Miguel Cuevas.
The additional two homeruns continued to put Pierce in a dominating position, one sent flying by Willie Cabrera and the other hit by Michael Notaro.
Cabrera also managed to steal two bases early on, taking advantage of a sluggish Mission team with his notable foot speed.
The entire original batting rotation managed at least one hit each (25 in all) and more than half hit a double, Ott with two.
Conversely, Mission was held to 11 hits by its original line up, with only two doubles.
Ryan Platt and Darren Norris shared pitching duties in the final inning, where six of Mission’s eight runs were scored.
Still, the game was all but one at that point, and there was no catching the lead and momentum Pierce had established early on.
The next home game for the Brahma baseball is tomorrow against Bakersfield College at 2 p.m. on the Joe Kelly field.
