There’s no accounting for this teacher

New accounting teacher Robert Foster, who occasionally likes to break free from numbers by scuba diving, hiking and mountain biking, has joined the Pierce College faculty this semester.

Born in Northridge, Foster has lived in California his entire life. He grew up in Saugus with his five older siblings.

Foster has been teaching for nine years at many other schools, such as California State University, Northridge; California State University, Channel Islands; the Brooks Institute of Photography, College of the Canyons, Moorpark College and Oxnard College.

Not only did Foster teach at College of the Canyons, but he also received his A.A. degree there. He received his B.S. at California State University, Long Beach and his M.S. in education at National University. Finally, he achieved his MBA at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.

In his free time, there are many activities Foster enjoys, such as real estate and stock market investing. He also enjoys traveling, having visited 23 countries so far. His favorites are Spain (for its culture) and Australia (for its activities).

“[Foster] comes to Pierce with a lot of teaching and real-life experience in business. He’s athletic, outgoing and really personable. The students are going to love him,” said Dr. Raymond Wells, biology professor and faculty mentor to Foster.

On the job, Foster is inspired by his students when they understand the material they can apply it to their future careers. He chose his career due to his interest in business.

“There’s a lot of real-world applications to the material. It’s a serious business class. It’s not a walk in the park,” said Foster.
