“Things We Lost in the Fire” is a story about life, death and what happens to us when someone we love transitions between the two. The movie centers around the death of father, husband, son and friend, Brian, played by David Duchovny. Danish director Susanne Bier paints the screen with lucid imagery to draw on the audience’s senses.

An encore 50 years in the making
After 50 years, the Pierce College theatre arts department kicked off their anniversary celebration Friday with the multi-play production, “Golden Encore.” This being the theater arts department’s 50th anniversary, “Golden Encore” is more than a normal performance.
Former Brahmas are RED hot champs
As the 2007 World Series champions, Boston Red Sox, celebrate their second title in four seasons, the Pierce College community might be interested in two specific players, besides Manny Ramirez and David “Big Papi” Ortiz or Curt Shilling and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Landmark structure in progress
Part II of a Series Years of planning and dedication are taking shape at Pierce College, as the new Student Services building has begun its transformation from conceptually-designed paper drawing to classically-stuccoed concrete icon. Located at the south end of the campus mall, the 49,775-square-foot, three-story building will house the offices of admissions and records, financial aid, counseling, the career transfer center, the student health center, EOP&S, international students, high school outreach and special services.
Undocumented students denied financial aid
The Senate Bill that would have provided financial aid to undocumented students was vetoed Oct. 13 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to his office. Blanca Oviedo, supervisor of financial aid at Pierce College, was disappointed to hear that the bill had been denied by the governor.
Casual sex on the rise for college students

District-wide Web site update brings uniformity to its Web pages
589 words/35= 17″ The nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District have been redesigning their Web sites to be more standardized and accessible, increasing functionality for all students and staff while maintaining individuality amongst the colleges.
Brahmas stomp Corsairs
The Pierce College women’s soccer team, ranked number two in California and number five in the country, demolished Santa Monica College 7-0, Friday at the Pit. Coming into the match, Pierce’s record was 13 wins, one loss and four draws. They looked to consolidate that record against Santa Monica.
Pierce offers refuge
Once again, Pierce College students, including the Boots and Saddle club, came to the rescue of many equine animals, helping to relieve some of the stress placed on the owners of horses, donkeys and goats. Ravaging thousands of acres and displacing people in its wake, the recent eruption of fires has caused an enormous amount of damage.
Textbook bill passes
Two bills attempting to combat high textbook prices were sent to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s desk this month, but on Oct. 14 Assembly Bill 1548 passed, while Senate Bill 832 was vetoed. Both bills were similar in that they aim to inform instructors about edition changes, what additional supplements come with the books and, most importantly, prices.
