For honors student Vaughan Gendelman, 29, anthropology major, the Honors Program is the conduit towards his point of destination. “I’m glad there’s an Honors Program,” said Gendelman. “It’s a nice way to ensure that I get into UCLA.” Unofficially, he is looking to transfer next year.

Drawing a capacity crowd, another successful event presented by the Encore Adult Education program at Pierce College Campus Center proceeded on Thursday. For the second presentation of the Fall 2007 Professors’ Lecture series, Maestro James Domine took to the helm and conducted an exciting lesson on the subject “The Development of Opera” for mostly older adults.
HIV/AIDS Awareness on the go, HIV/AIDS awareness month, raising Pierce’s HIV/AIDS awareness
Over 40,000 people are being infected by HIV/AIDS in United States each year, and more than 25 million people have died from AIDS since 1981. Half the people having HIV infection every day is under the age of 25, and as of 2005, California is ranked number two in cases of AIDS involving young adults.

A new grading system causes controversy

Halloween Harvest howls into town
This weekend, Pierce College was proud to welcome back its annual Halloween Harvest Festival. The wildly popular event, which opened Friday, is located at the corner of De Soto Avenue and Victory Boulevard for the next five weeks, and all are welcome to join in the festivities.
Two hour power outage hits campus
You never think about how important electricity is until it’s not there. Several minutes after 8 a.m. Sept. 26, students, faculty and staff thought about electricity on campus… there wasn’t any. Pierce College President Robert Garber said that it was a Department of Water and Power (DWP) problem.

Valley, Citrus shutout
The sun couldn’t have been brighter for the Pierce College Women’s soccer team on Sept. 25. The Brahmas hosted Valley College at The Pit and dismissed them with a 6-0 shut out win to start the Western State Conference tournament. “It was the best game of the year,” said Brahma coach Adolfo Perez of his team’s 10th game of the 2007 season.
