The baseball team lost 11-3 at home April 1 to conference leader College of the Canyons.Pitcher Nathan Perlitsh said despite the good plays they executed, they could not make up for the Cougars’ 16 hits. “It was a struggle,” Perlitsh said. “We had a few errors at bad times, but it’s not an excuse for hits the pitching staff gave up.”With their seventh consecutive loss, the Brahmas now have a 5-11 record.Head coach Joe Arnold said, “We played a team that was better than us, and they beat us.”An error in the first inning by the Brahmas allowed COC to make the first score, and by the third inning, Brahmas were down 3-0.”When you play good teams, you can’t have any let downs,” Arnold said. “We had too many let downs.”The Brahmas scored after a fourth-inning hit by Eric Bloom brought two runs home, closing the gap with Pierce trailing, 3-2.Cougars scored two more runs in the fifth, but Brahma Calvin Culver made a base hit and stole second and third, easily making it home after a hit by Will Myrick. At the top of the sixth inning, with Pierce down 6-3, the Brahmas brought in pitcher Carter Whitman to replace starter Nathan Perlitsh. Whitman didn’t fare much better, giving up two runs in both the sixth and eighth innings. Pitcher Mike Nesbit closed the game.Right fielder Nick Devian, who had a ground-rule double to center in the fourth, remains optimistic despite the game’s poor results.”We just gotta come out and do better the next time, and hopefully we can turn it around,” Devian said.
