“She’s my best player in 10 years,” head coach Pat Grennan said of Jamie Domine, second-year player on the Pierce College softball team.Just 20 years old, Jamie Domine has a batting average of 350 and leads the team in RBIs. “Jamie has the potential to be a division one player,” Grennan said. She’s very quiet but dependable, hitting for average and power while gaining a lot of base hits.Grennan, who has been coaching at Pierce College for a decade, has seen a lot of players come and go, but according to him, Domine has been a joy to have on the team – not only because she excels at it, but because she motivates the other players to have a winning mindset.Since her early teenage years, Domine has loved to play the game of softball. She played on two traveling softball teams, Mid Valley Magic and Northridge Blazers, at the age of 12. She once reached Taft High School in Woodland Hills, playing varsity softball all four years.”I had mixed feelings about the team this season,” Domine said. “We all weren’t really meshing well together.”The team has seen a lot of players come and go this season, and has experienced two serious injuries to two key players on the team.Domine expressed gratefulness that through all the obstacles experienced throughout this season, the softball team was able to make it through and has ultimately brought the girls closer as a team.”She’s consistent, she’s been good, and hopefully we’ll have other girls utilize her positive attitude and playing strengths as a follow-up,” said assistant softball coach Greg Wertz. With this year being her last at Pierce, Domine wants to pursue the rest of her college education at University of California, Santa Barbara on a scholarship. She intends to continue her journey in softball while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology.”I hope the best for our team for the rest of the season, especially with it being my last,” Domine said.
