The red carpet rolls out today for Pierce College teachers attending the Teachers Appreciation Banquet, which will take place in the Student Community Center from noon to 2 p.m.
The banquet is being put on by Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS), an honor society branching from a statewide organization of community college societies that promotes academic excellence, leadership and service for the student body of Pierce.
The banquet is open to all students and faculty who wish to attend. Donations in the amount of five dollars have been collected from students. A donation doubles as a meal ticket, as well as a nomination for the teacher of choice.
Rosie’s BBQ, out of Northridge, will be providing the catering for this event. The banquet will be an all-you-can-eat buffet for all attendees who purchase a meal and donation ticket.
The Teachers Appreciation Banquet recognizes teachers that have impacted the lives of their students in an extraordinary way.
Students all over campus will nominate their teachers of choice, and will be asked to write a short essay explaining why they think the teacher should be nominated.
All nominated teachers will receive a Golden Apple Award.
“The Alpha Gamma Sigma honors society, which is under the umbrella of the (Associated Students Organization), puts this banquet on every year,” said Tessa Moss, ASO president. “The focus is to let the teachers know that they are making a difference in the lives of their students.”
Ayesha Zarook, AGS vice president, said that the public relations committee at Pierce has been spreading the word to students on campus to put in their nominations for the teacher that has made a difference in any aspect of their lives.
