Dance club review

Building a bridge between electro and indie, club “Dance,” on Tuesday nights, joins together several different music scenes in an electrifying mixture.Located at the Arena Café on Santa Monica Boulevard, this club caters to the 18 and older crowd, complete with two stories of dance floor, a full bar and an outdoor smoking patio. Playing a blend of indie, electro, house, and nu rave, “Dance” draws groups of rockers and ravers, a fairly uncommon crowd to be seen together. The club costs $5 before 10 p.m., and $10 after.Glow sticks on strings and worn as necklaces seemed to be all the new rage in the dress-to-impress environment. There are six DJs that spin their own remixes of new and upcoming electronic tracks who perform different nights of the month. The DJs include Paparazzi, Joaquin, Guns’n’Bombs, Bip Jeffington and Le Castle Vania. An exciting feature, one that I have not seen at similar clubs, was a photographer and backdrop set up toward the back of the venue. Capturing posed photographs composed of groups of friends and couples, the pictures are made available at the club’s Web site.Much of the music played in this club is not easily found on a weekday night in Hollywood, especially for the under-21 bunch. The Vanguard, on Hollywood Boulevard, offers house and electro music on an almost nightly basis, but clubgoers must be of legal drinking age and I.D. checking is highly enforced.Perhaps for this reason, the 7-month-old club is packed by 10 p.m. and stays swarming with people until 2 a.m.Nov. 13 was the grand opening of “Dance,” and it has since become a success in the club scene.”Dance” is an ideal hangout spot for those who love electronic music, but are not gutsy enough to try out the rave scene. It seemed that every song the DJ played throughout the night was better than the one before, and the lively vibe of the crowd made for a welcoming atmosphere. For an inexpensive way to spend a Tuesday night, “Dance” is a definite good choice. More information is available at www.danceatarena.com.
