The real deal on the Book Buyback
The traditional Book Buyback will occur May 22 to June 3, a month after the YouTube and MySpace release of the “Books and Beyond” music video produced by the Pierce College Bookstore. Baseball wrapup
A season of turnover, a season of pitfalls and of surges, and a season that came up just short has come to a close for the Brahmas. Pierce College finished the 2008 baseball season fourth in the Western State Conference with a conference record of 15-13 and an overall record of 24-20.
‘Speed Racer’, faster than ever
“Speed Racer” is an electrifying rendition of an old classic. Gentlemen, start your engines. The Mach 5 is back in action. “Speed Racer” was originally an anime series in Japan called “Mach GoGoGo” and gained popularity in America during the late 1960s. But thanks to a green screen and a load of 21st century technology, it has turned into a film with gloriously vibrant action scenes.
World hunger lacks nationwide priority
As I was loading my sixth box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal onto the conveyor at Costco, I was perturbed to find a small scrap of paper taped to the register stating limits on the number of bags of rice we could buy: five bags per member. Sure, it’s not a huge deal; five bags of basmati go a long way in my house.
Happy birthday, Israel
A siren sounds and the people of Israel stop what they’re doing, pull over their cars and stand in silence for an entire minute; it’s the day before Israel’s Independence Day. According to the Western calendar that is used in the U.S., May 14 marks the 60th anniversary of Israel, when celebrations take place throughout the beautiful state.
Students treated unfairly have an option
“The teacher hates me.” “I didn’t know we were supposed to do that!” “This grading is so unfair.” Exclamations like these are heard in classrooms around the world, sometimes with sincere concern. Yet many students fail to take such complaints to a meaningful level.
Webmail gives users a run for their info
Many Pierce College students make it a routine to run into the Freudian Sip, grab a snack and rush to a computer to check their latest e-mails from providers like Yahoo!, Gmail or Hotmail – unaware they might be preyed on by advertisers, spammers or even hackers.
