Rollerblades, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, busses and the Orange line; what do they all have in common? Pierce College students.
Edgar Rodriguez uses a skateboard as his choice for commuting. “I don’t live that far from school so it’s easy. But I try to get here early because I don’t want to go to class all sweaty,” he said. Rodriguez doesn’t have a license yet and is happy he doesn’t have to spend money on gas.
Concerned about the impact on the environment, Edon Cohen, an Associated Student Organization senator, takes the bus to Pierce. “I’m trying to do my part,” he said.
One Pierce student rides his motorcycle to school because it’s cool and he likes the thrill of going fast.
Bike riding, skateboarding and rollerblading are technically not allowed on campus according to posted signs but this doesn’t seem to discourage many students flying down the campus mall on their way to class.
Whether it’s concern for the environment, a fun way of getting to school, getting some exercise, or a way to save money on gas, Pierce students are creative in their approach to transportation.
