The Pierce College women’s soccer team is here to make their mark among the athletic department and show the students what they are made of.

“One of the best sports on campus,” says Bob Lofrano, Athletic Director, and “one of the top programs in the state.”

In every team there are the newbies and the veterans. The women’s soccer team has a total of 20 players.

Including the 13 newbies, Stephanie Cubias, Maria-Gabriella Gavatto, Denise Kochheim, Rachel Kove, Emelie Martinez, Kelsey Morquecho, Jamie Noland, Gina Piazza, Betty Ramirez, Chris Ramos, Citlaly Reyes, Emani Steward and Julia Tello.

So far, the women’s soccer team have 6 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. Last year, the team had 17 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.

The women’s soccer team won their first game 10 to nothing. One of the star players, “Stephanie Cubias,” according to Head Coach Adolfo Perez, scored 3 goals.

Cubias, 17, played for Valley United before attending Pierce College. She is a starting freshman at Pierce College and has scored 11 goals total since she has been here.

This is the girl’s seventh year in a row they made playoffs.

The women’s soccer team have won 5 conference title’s in 7 years. “Overall, we have a better team,” says Perez.

Maria-Gabriella Gavotto, 19, captain of the women’s soccer team, believes being a captain is a “crazy experience” and “everyone is looking up to you.”

Gavotto explains how the girls “don’t always agree with the things that I say,” however, “our different skills come together ” and “hopefully win state.”

The team is a “very young team” and “off to a good start,” says Perez, and “our girls get along better this year.”

The ladies are putting away their make up, louis vutton bags, victoria secret perfume, their heels and picking up a soccer ball. Their out their to win and, like Cindy Lauper says, they “just wanna have fun.”
