All classes and services at Pierce College will be open and running tomorrow, following today’s evacuation due to poor air quality from the fires.
Though the campus was initially evacuated, the threat level was later reduced and people were allowed on campus once again, but campus services and classes still remained closed. The initial email sent around 10 a.m. by Pierce President Robert Garber, which urged the initial evacuation, said, “Our intention is for the campus to reopen tomorrow, but please check the college Web site for updated information.”
“We determined the air quality was very unhealthy and we decided we would not force people to be here,” Garber later said, adding people could stay if they wanted.
Lead Deputy Jeanine Swanson of the Pierce College Sheriff’s Department confirmed people could still enter and remain on the campus, despite all services and classes being closed for the day.
While Mission College also remained closed down, California State University, Northridge was reopened after having been closed yesterday.
The Roundup print edition, complete with coverage of the fires, will be available Thursday instead of tomorrow.
Check the Pierce College Web site and the Roundup Online for updated information.
