After being continuously drowned by thudering ins and spikes at El Camino College on March 5, Brahmas men’s volleyball team came home defeated 3-0.
Pierce College came close to winning the first set but came short of three, and ECC led at 30-27.
“We looked past them, never really paid attention (to the team),” Brahmas team captain Steve Umemoto said.
Not permitting the Brahmas to ignore them, ECC kept on scoring and won 30-28 in the close fight.
“We were outplayed,” Brahmas’ head coach Eddie Stanislawski said.
In the small gym where ECC cheerleaders and fans echoed, the game ended in their favor 30-16.
The referee repeatedly gave “bad calls” causing the “Brahmas to lose their momentum,” according to teams captains Umemoto and Richard Barraza.
They weren’t the only ones affected, however, as ECC head coach, Richard Blount, also commented.
“I think that the referee gave bad calls to both teams,” Blount said.
He also said that maybe they played at a higher percentage than the Brahmas when asked about why they won.
Brahmas’ Barraza said that their team didn’t have their usual intensity. Fellow captain Umemoto felt mad knowing that they should’ve won but didn’t.
“We’re definitely not looking past any team anymore,” Umemoto said.
Their next opponent would be Moorpark College. The home game will be on tonight at 7 p.m.
