Women’s volleyball beats San Bernardino

WOODLAND HILLS – The Pierce College women’s volleyball team beat the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines on Wednesday.

The Pierce team started strong on their season opening game by sweeping the Wolverines in three sets; 25-11, 25-20 and 25-14. The win set the Brahmas up for the tournament in Las Vegas, on Friday and Saturday

“Try to focus on the fundamentals,” said sophomore Ashley Clark about the win and the tournament on the weekend.

Head Coach Nabil Mardini, claimed that he has “high hopes and very confident (about the team).” When asked about what he expects for the Las Vegas Tournament he said, “we have to take one game at a time,” and added “tonight we have these girls to worry about.”

Ashley Lugo-Brown was on the 2007 roster but received a volleyball scholarship to Long Beach State University. Lugo-Brown was cheering from the sideline with the rest of the team and said that the team has “talent” going into the 2008 season.

Also coach Mardini felt confident about the team, he said “we have new faces with talent.” The team will try to win its eighth Western State Conference Championship in a row, the Brahmas will head off to the Las Vegas Tournament and after they will face Santa Barbara College on Wednesday.
