Pierce College hosts all performances by the San Fernando Valley Symphony in the Performing Arts Building. On September 27, they will perform Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, featuring solo performances by three young, award-winning musicians.

Equestrian Center upgrades focus on educational value
Renovations have been made to the Equestrian Center, yet it has remained closed down for students for a year and a half. Pierce College began in 1947 as the Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture. According to the Pierce Web site, it has come a long way from its mere enrollment of 212 students to the current enrollment of more than 20,000 students each semester, with more than 100 disciplines to choose from.
Intercom systems coming this fall
An intercom system that directs communication from classrooms to the sheriff’s office is scheduled to be installed later in the fall. The system will enable students or teachers to communicate with the sheriff’s office or trigger a silent alarm that will alert the sheriff’s office.
Increased enrollment means overcrowding
Unemployment and poor economy results means more returning students at Pierce College, and underfunded growth means finding creative ways to teach the crowds.
Texting effecting students writing ability
Young people are using texting/instant messaging as a way to communicate.Writing skills is hurting because they are spelling words such as you “u” or ok “k”. Stundents are putting texting lingo in their assignments. The English could suffer and make it hard for those trying to learn it.
FINAL: Football team planning to reach the Bowl
The Pierce football season has begun with a rough start, losing the first three games against Moorpark, Fullerton and Allan Hancock and losing the starting quarterback, Justin Collins, to a broken femur injury. “We lost 13 starters the first game due to eligibility issues like transcripts not coming in on time,” said Pierce head coach Efrain Martinez, “but we hope to have a few back.

Here comes that time of year when every student walks down the mall and sees all those tables, chairs, signs and the free food students can have after signing up for a club. Club Rush Week is the one week of the year where students have the opportunity to join a group people with a common interest whether it is religion or saddles.
They’re back – and better than ever
High top sneakers and their scarlet/white uniforms ready, Pierce College Women’s Basketball team is ready to box-out their way thru the season. Bridget Jenkins, 19-year-old sophomore, is 2008 All Game High Scorer for the WSC Western State Conference; she leads the state on free throws with 87%.
Brahmas on a 54-home-game winning streak
The sound of palm on leather left a ringing in the ears of the Comets as the Pierce College women’s volleyball team defeated their opponents from Palomar College, 3-1, Sept. 17 in the South Gym. Outside hitters Janet Alvarado and Sarah Martin led the Brahma attack, each recording 13 kills with Martin recording three aces, while libero Ashley Clark paced the defense with seven digs, raising her Western State Conference lead in that category to 106 on the season.
