When do students deserve to know?
It took an article in the Los Angeles Daily News to draw our attention to an $80,000 scam that has targeted students of Pierce College and other colleges in the San Fernando Valley for about a year. According to the Aug. 1 article entitled, “Students bilked for $80,000, cops say,” officials say they began to receive complaints from students at Pierce, Valley College and California State University, Northridge about a year ago.

A scam involving victimized students cashing about $80,000 in fraudulent checks for con-artists, has been reportedly taking place at Pierce College, Valley College and California State University, Northridge. Detective Tammy Thomas from the Los Angeles Police Department said the scams have been going on since April and that a warning needs to be sent out to students immediately.
Exotic ‘Fables and Follies’ attracts the feminine eye
The art gallery opened its doors Sept. 10 for the viewing of Rebecca Edwards’ exhibit, “Fables and Follies,” which will run through Oct. 8. Huge pieces like the “Tall Chair Mannequins” and “Rapunzel’s Revenge” have piqued the interest of both students and professors.

Along with the beginning of the fall semester a recycling program has also been implemented into Pierce campus.
It’s aces in Vegas for Brahmas
The women’s volleyball team, seven-time Western State Conference Champions, kicked off their 2008 season by winning the Women’s Volleyball Las Vegas Tournament for the first time in four yearsSept. 5 and 6. “This year we are more experienced as a volleyball players,” said Head coach Nabil Mardini, who anticipated a successful run in the tournament.
Paved farm road adds modern feel, easier access
Many decades ago there was no Warner Center, Victory Boulevard or even Pierce College. Today we are an expanding world and a growing economy. Steps have to be made to accommodate for our growing community at Pierce. Improvements were made last semester for our past ware and tear on our farm road.

Two new deans appointed at Pierce College
Two new deans, Jose Luis Fernandez, dean of career and technical education, and Barbara Anderson, dean of academic affairs, were appointed on Aug. 11 and Sept. 1, respectively, at Pierce College. Fernandez worked as dean of vocational education at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif.
