In the face of world hunger
As I was loading my sixth box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal onto the conveyor at Costco, I was perturbed to find a small scrap of paper taped to the register stating limits on the number of bags of rice we could buy: five bags per member. Sure, it’s not a huge deal; five bags of basmati go a long way in my house.
Bookstore makes video to promote Buyback
The traditional Book Buyback will occur May 22 to June 3, a month after the untraditional YouTube and MySpace release of the “Books and Beyond” music video produced by the Pierce College Bookstore. The rap song was written and performed by Pierce student Cardel Jackson, who goes by the stage name of J Stylez 285.

Hard candy, sweet record
Madonna’s latest album, “Hard Candy,” proved once again that she is invincible and that there are no boundaries surrounding her music. With its American debut April 29, the album sold 100,000 copies on its first day of release in the U.S. alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Dance club review
Building a bridge between electro and indie, club “Dance,” on Tuesday nights, joins together several different music scenes in an electrifying mixture. Located at the Arena Café on Santa Monica Boulevard, this club caters to the 18 and older crowd, complete with two stories of dance floor, a full bar and an outdoor smoking patio.
G.I. Bill
The United States Senate is scheduled to vote this week on a new G.I. Bill designed to further educational benefits for post-9/11 veterans. S.22, also called the “Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act,” would provide 36 months of benefits up to the cost of the most expensive in-state public school, as well as money for books and housing costs to those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a news release by Sen.
Pierce student goes above and beyond
Pierce College student Trish Loughnane, who made it on the All-California Academic Team of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honors society for two-year colleges, will be recognized for her achievements. Graduating in June, Trish Loughnane has maintained a 3.
