Pierce College’s quest to debut a men’s soccer team in the upcoming fall semester has hit a temporary snag due to California’s statewide budget cuts authorized on Feb. 16. Adolfo Perez, women’s soccer coach and prospective men’s coach, said that adding men’s soccer ran smoothly before the cuts, with Pierce already recruiting 20-30 potential players.

A quick drive to paradise
Forget driving 20 miles to Hollywood and dealing with the ridiculous lines of overplayed celebrity hangouts. Finally, there is a place for those Valley-dwellers seeking a nightlife close to home and budget. Adorned golden walls carved with statues of pharaohs and sensual red lighting enticed me as I entered Ramzy’s Café in Tarzana.
the True faces of Film
Oscar nominees for makeup and hairstyling offered tips of their trades and advice for wannabes at a symposium the day before the big event. At Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Feb. 23, the nominated films for makeup and hair were “La Vie En Rose,” “Norbit” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (POTC3).
Glendale shut out by Brahmas
The Pierce College baseball team scored a landslide victory against Glendale Community College on Thursday, with an amazing shutout score of 10-0. “The game went well,” said starting pitcher Cameron Collard. “We had good defense and good plays at the right time.
Hope for suffering, recovering addicts

Black History Month:

New Pierce Web site hard to navigate
The highly anticipated, newly designed Pierce College Web site made its debut at the beginning of this semester. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. The Los Angeles Community College District mandated that all district Web sites use the new Content Management System.
Teaching by the least common denominator
Jim is a professional. He works hard every day to do the best job he can on any given project and his customers have reaped the rewards of his natural talent and the pains he takes for his work. Bob works alongside Jim; he’s unmotivated, not particularly talented and puts in minimal effort.
Getting on the ticket
The spring election is just around the corner and the Associated Student Organization is excited about what some are calling an “incredibly contested” upcoming election. With the release of the official list of students running for office yesterday, the ASO is gearing up for what it expects to be a busier campaigning season than last year, leading into elections somewhere between late March and early April.
Waiting lists get the axe
The new software that will do away with the “waiting list” enrollment process at Pierce College was discussed at the Academic Senate meeting Feb. 25. A handout that described how the new method would be more efficient was presented by Robert Martinez, academic policy vice president and William Duxler, physics and planetary science department chair.
