In light of Valentine’s Day, the Pierce College Student Health Center is promoting safe sex with the distribution of free condoms and Hershey’s Kisses on the Campus Mall.
Nurse Practitioner Debbie Sargent and Program Assistant Julie Fassett were passing out information pamphlets on STD’s and giving away free condoms today to students, as well as some teachers.
The “Kisses N’ Condoms” booth will be in the campus mall Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Fassett stated that this is the first year the booth has been brought to Pierce, and the Student Health Center hopes that the program will stay.
Pierce is the first Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) campus to incorporate this program into its health awareness program.
It took the health center a few weeks to get approval from the administration to pass out the free condoms and health pamphlets.
The Student Health Center is located in the Campus Center next to the cafeteria and is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Students are welcome to come to the center at any time to receive free condoms, first aid and health information. They also provide psychological services, family planning services, physical exams, crisis intervention and much more.
Students can call (818) 710-4270 for any questions. They can also visit the Pierce College Web site or visit the center to schedule an appointment to see the nurse practitioner, the college nurse or physician.
Though the Student Health Center is open to students during office hours, Thursday will be the last day to receive any Kisses.
