The Pierce College men’s basketball team lost the final game of the season against Cuesta College Cougars 63-52 on Saturday evening, in Pierce’s South Gym.

The Brahmas started the game with a slow lead, but quickly lost it in the first half with a struggling defense, which left the Cougars controlling the tempo of the game having an 8-pont lead by the half.

During the second half Pierce’s defense picked up a little by creating some turnovers, though it still wasn’t enough to help the Brahmas win the game where they ended the game losing by 9-points.

“The story of our season: A few plays here and there and the outcome would have been different,” said head coach Edward Babayan.

One of the highlights of this game was freshman guard Justus Von Wright, scoring 24 points.

“The team kept going at me and I just kept scoring,” said Von Wright. “I was a little disappointed. We could have won a lot more games but we were a little under sized and under man. Considering that’s we did as much as we could.”

Sophomore night was in store for the men’s basketball team as 6 of their players will be transferring to other schools including starting guard Corey Duncan.

“I feel like we under-achieved, but we played hard, so you could say it was an average season,” said Duncan.

The season for the Brahma’s ended with a record of 3-9 in conference, 9-18 overall, and sixth place in the western conference.

“(It was) a little disappointing,” said Babayan. “I felt like we had a lot of good players. Kids that worked really hard I hoped that we could get a lot more wins out of it.

“But, for the most part I am proud of them, we were short handed and hurt almost the entire year and we put everything on the court.”
