Dear Editor—
Thank you for the Roundup’s input on the college Web site expressed in your March 25 editorial, “The site that leads to nowhere.” Since Web site navigation is approached differently by each person, the only way we can know it doesn’t work for someone is if they let us know.
Our webmaster, Carlos Guzman, is very responsive and I’m happy to report that we have improved navigation on the first issue you brought up, making it easier to find a Faculty list.
We added a new link called “Faculty Directory,” and I invite you to try it. From the home page, click Faculty/Staff, and find the new link at left.
Next we improved the “People Search” feature found at the upper left of the home page (and on all main landing pages: Why Pierce, Students, Faculty/Staff and Community).
People Search — custom-made for Pierce by our webmaster — is fast and the quickest way to find a faculty member.
Once you type in a name, you will find not only the person’s correct title and phone number, but we’ve added their office location and e-mail address.
We also re-ordered the Map and Phone Directory page to highlight the Faculty Directory. We hope these improvements will ease your navigation.
With regard to general navigation, we believe (and find the general consensus is) that our new Web site (launched Spring 2008) is a great improvement over our old one. The new site is based on a content management system set up so that multiple users can update web pages, not just one.
Other issues the editorial raised pertain to funding and personnel. These are issues we are aware of and are working on within the constraints of our District.
This is a process. We all share the same goals and want to do the best we can for the students and community who rely on our Web site as a source of information and guidance.
We look forward to your continued feedback on the Pierce Web site.
