David Follosco, currently Dean of Student Services, was named interim Vice President of Student Services this morning by Joy McCaslin, Ph.D, who is serving as interim president.
“It’s a lot more responsibility,” Follosco said.
Follosco takes over for McCaslin, who took over for former president Robert Garber after he left his position to care for his son, Jesse.
Follosco has been at Pierce College for three years as the dean of student services, which has included being the director of CalWorks and EOP&S, as well as overseeing commencement. His current duties will expand to include supervising Financial Aid, the Child Development Center, and many others.
“McCaslin built a good team. Our main concern is still the budget and the economy of the state,” he said.
Follosco has been in the Los Angeles Community College District for 30 years, serving as vice president at West L.A. College, an administrator at Mission and other positions at a total of five campuses.
“My first goal is to not mess up,” Follosco said. “Our first priority is still to continue services for students.”
Follosco and McCaslin will both return to their previous positions after a permanent president is found.
