State legislators to attend budget meeting on campus

Pierce College’s Students Organizing for Success (SOS) will host a public town hall style meeting this Thursday, Oct. 29 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Campus Center. 

“California cut nearly $700 million in community college spending from the 2009-10 state budget to address a severe revenue shortfall,” said State Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, in a statement to the Roundup. Brownley will be one of the legislators speaking at the meeting.

The meeting will also feature State Sentor Fran Pavely and will focus on the budget crisis and the future of education in California.

“With the state facing billions of dollars more in potential deficts, it is vital for students to become politically active to fight for their education,” said Brownley.

The meeting will give students and faculty the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns.

This meeting is just one of a series of events that have been organized by students in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and will conincide with an identifcal event at LA Mission College.
