The Pierce College women’s soccer team claimed its tenth consecutive victory Friday night at a home game against Citrus College, 1-0.

As the players’ names were being announced before the game, pink bands could be seen on the arms and legs of all the Lady Brahmas.

The bands were worn out of respect for team captain Gabby Gavott,o who was injured during an away game at Citrus College.

Gavotto suffered a grade 3 concussion from Citrus College forward Tiffany Schneider and, according to head coach Adolfo Perez, may never play again.

The first half of the game was slow with no goals by either side, but in the 22nd minute of the second half, Rachel Kove scored the game-winning shot off a pass from Stephanie Cubias.

“This game was a really important win,” Kove said. “It was for Gabby.”

The remainder of the game was filled with injuries and multiple Brahmas were substituted out of the game.

Cubias was taken out of the game after a head injury. Erica Vangsness and Erica Ceja injured their right knees.

The Brahmas’ next game against Santa Monica College takes place at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Soccer Pit on the north side of campus.

This upcoming game is one of the last four before the state championships.

Eight of the 10 games the Lady Brahmas have won were shutouts.

“We’re ready to take them all. We want to go undefeated,” Cubias said. “State is what we want, we’re not worried about conference anymore.”
