Bathroom Humor

At a weekly Associated Students Organization Senate meeting on Dec. 1, the organization played the chorus to musician Lily Allen’s “Fuck you.” This was in reference to the University of California applications system crashing on Nov. 30.

Who would use such a profane message to make a point?

The online UC application system is just a system. The crash was probably due to an overload of procrastinators filling out applications last minute. Whatever the case may be, playing the song was very unprofessional.

However, it got worse.

According to Roundup reporter Tyler McGee, ASO vice president Chris Suard said Dec. 1 “national kill an infidel day.”

Adding to Suard’s “national kill an infidel day,” Suard played Busta Rhymes’ “Arab Money.” After the song, ASO’s public welfare committee chair Amr Abushami dressed in garb while addressing his weekly report.

At first I thought that maybe I was missing something. So I searched “national kill an infidel day.” It looks like Abushami celebrated “national kill an infidel day” all alone this year because the day doesn’t exist.

Suard stated that the meeting was not an official meeting and that he was not obligated to comment.

What do you call a regularly scheduled meeting as is posted on the ASO’s homepage?

While doing research I realized that the ASO homepage didn’t have updated agendas or minutes of their meetings since Nov. 3.

With Abushami dressing up in garb and the lack of updates on ASO’s homepage, what exactly is the ASO doing for our student community?

Perhaps it was done in good fun—but I didn’t find it funny.
