President Joy McCaslin hosted the annual “President’s Holiday Brunch” in the Campus Center today.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today for Pierce faculty and staff.

“It’s a way to celebrate the holidays with a treat,” said McCaslin. “It’s a way to wish them well—a thank from the administration.”

According to the McCaslin, the administration planned for about 350 faculty and staff members to attend.

She said that the turnout was a success. There were several faculty and staff members that came “in and out” of the event, according to McCaslin.

The Philharmonic Choir was one of the main features at the event. They sang: “Joy to the World,” Polly and Ivy,” “Hanerot Halah” (a song for Hanukah), “Santa Claus is coming” and “Angels we have heard on high” (a song sung in French).

Theresa Danne (a student at Pierce), Kevin Dalby, Michael Khol and Beth Rohdey were the featured members at the choir.

The Philharmonic Choir has been doing the event for the past six years, according to Danne. The choir is made up of community singers, professionals and Pierce College students.

Command Performance Caterers catered the food

The beverages consisted of orange juice, water and coffee. Muffins, eggs, sausages, bacon and breakfast potatoes were the catered food available.

Members of the administration were the servers of the catered food.

Vice President of Administrative Services Ken Takeda was of the servers at the event.

“We [administration] wanted to recognize all the hard work this semester,” said Takeda, who has been a volunteer at the event for the past three years. “They [faculty and staff members] worked hard with less money and fewer people to do it.”

The season of giving didn’t end with food and holidays songs for Pierce.

Public Relations manager Doreen Clay handed out recycling bags as gifts to anyone that wanted one.

The Los Angeles Community College District made approximately 1,200 bags for each community college, according to Clay.

Faculty, staff and students can find these bags near the Freudian Sip.

The event was compliments of the American Federation of Teachers Faculty Guild, Staff Guild, Richard Berliner Architects, Paul Murdoch Architects and Psomas.
